Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (MW4)

Ballistic Authority and hipfire accuracy

Ballistic Authority is the announced weapon-first technology stack, combining precision aiming, physical handling, audio propagation, visibility and battlefield perception.

The specific hipfire change removes bloom: shots travel where the weapon points. Weapon sway, recoil, movement and handling still affect accuracy, so removing bloom does not remove the need to control your weapon.

New mantle and slide movement

Mantle Slide allows a direct transition from mantling into sliding. Mantle Momentum preserves forward velocity until the obstacle is cleared.

Supine Slide is a longer, lower slide that ends with your character on their back, feet forward.

The full movement suite is expected across Campaign, Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone. A dedicated training course is announced for launch, focused on speed, movement chaining and route mastery.

  1. To trigger Supine Slide, double-tap crouch while sprinting.

Loadouts, Gunny and Apex Attachments

Create-a-Class returns to a vertical list layout, with Operators and Killstreaks integrated into each individual loadout.

Gunny is an optional attachment optimizer within Create-a-Class. It assembles weapon builds from attachments you have already unlocked while retaining full customization.

Apex Attachments are optional weapon modifications unlocked by maxing out a weapon. They equip separately from standard Gunsmith attachments and do not consume an attachment slot.

Smartstreaks and objective-focused modes

Smartstreaks let both kills and objective play contribute toward earning Killstreaks. Kills remain the primary driver.

In Inflation, each elimination drops a cash bounty. Death leaves part of your collected cash behind, and the team holding the most cash wins.

Ground War: Combat Outpost centers on establishing Outposts to earn resources, then using those resources to complete further objectives. Its large play spaces combine infantry, vehicles and airborne Killstreaks.

Kill Block: changing layouts, Beta and launch plans

Kill Block is a modular Multiplayer battleground announced for Beta availability, with layouts reconfiguring between rounds.

Each layout combines three modular sections: two outer areas and one central combat space. Each section has multiple variants.

Launch plans describe more than 500 possible configurations and support for 3v3 and the new Gunfight 10v10 mode. Support for additional core Multiplayer modes is a future plan.

Classic Prestige versus Regular Prestige

The announced Prestige paths differ in what resets and which rewards they offer.

Prestige path Progression reset Rewards
Classic Prestige Resets level unlocks and Create-a-Class progression. Increased XP rates and exclusive Prestige rewards.
Regular Prestige Restarts at Level 1 while preserving level unlocks and Create-a-Class content. A subset of Prestige rewards and milestones.

Campaign settings and DMZ’s extraction premise

The campaign includes trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters fighting in New York, chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai and assaults to reclaim occupied territory.

Players fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier experiencing live combat for the first time alongside his squad. Captain Price operates outside the system he once served.

DMZ supports solo or squad deployments to recover advanced military technology left in the wake of war. Its extraction premise includes looting, fighting, negotiation, betrayal and escaping with what you can carry.
